30 day writing challenge….Day #4

Today’s topic is “What is my earliest childhood memory?”

Memories fade with time………

I have trouble remembering moments or events in my life. Most time I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast. Sometimes I forget what I am talking about in mid sentence so asking me what my earliest childhood memory is definitely a hard one for me😂 I sat and thought about this one for a while. I do have a lot of great memories but one that always stands out the most to me is the one I have chosen to share. Dad, I’m sorry in advance for this one but really its a great story so don’t hate me 🤣❤

So the story goes like this: I was 10 years old. I was at school. The day was over and I went to go meet my dad outside. We didn’t live too far from the school but because we had recently moved to London my dad just felt safer picking me up. I didn’t have many friends at this point because I was the “new kid“. I was trying to make friends, but what was about to happen to me changed that direction for a while🙄 I walked out the school doors and looked ahead of me where my dad was waiting. I looked at him and I could literally feel the color of my skin change from white as a ghost to red as a tomato. I started looking around to see if anyone else was seeing what I was seeing. It was clear as I looked around because everyone was looking at me, they saw 😮 My dad was standing next to his bike. Our family cat was sitting in the big basket he had! She was meowing like crazy which was drawing more attention. Not to mention he was wearing bleach stained shorts, tube socks up to his knees, a flat rimmed hat, clip on sunglasses, a bleached golf shirt and the WORST part was he was standing there dinging his bike bell, calling my name and waving at me like a crazy person 😒

This was it for me. This was the day my dad killed any coolness I may have had. It took me years to recover from this. I mean even when I made good friends, it always came up in some conversation. “Hey Jenn, you remember that time your dad picked you up with the cat!!”

Clearly, I have never forgotten.

Thank you to my dad for the memories, I may have hated it then but because of this challenge I was able to relive it. I couldn’t ask for a better dad❤
